Foods You Need To Eat For Healthy Natural Hair

Healthy hair starts from the inside out. You can know how to deep conditioner, know all the benefits of essential oils, and shampoos, but it won’t make nearly as much difference as eating healthy and staying hydrated. In the words of NppyFu “To have healthy hair, you must do healthy things.” As a loyal member of #TeamKinks (and as someone who just wants to be healthier), I think it’s time to do better. I broke down foods into three main vitamins for hair health: zinc, biotin, and vitamin c.


Zinc is essential for healthy hair because it facilitates the formation of necessary enzymes. A deficiency can cause alopecia as well as other health issues that can increase shedding.

Some zinc-filled and hair-friendly foods are:

•         cacao nibs

•         chia seeds

•         beets



Also known as Vitamin H, biotin helps the hair, skin, and nails. We have all heard about the wonders of biotin. I’m sure you’ve seen YouTube videos or Instagram pictures of people talking about how their hair grew and how it looks perfect.

A lot of people take supplements, but it’s found in foods as well! People in most countries get the recommended amount in their normal diet, so additives aren’t required. However, here are some foods to eat to increase your intake:

•         Avocado

•         Flax Seeds or flax seed meal

•         Nuts

•         Spinach

Vitamin C

There are no scientific studies claiming that vitamin c can be used for hair growth specifically. However, we do know that it can promote growth, and people have been reporting that it helped their grow back. Here’s what to eat to see of it works for you:

  • Orange

  • Strawberry

  • Kiwi

  • Pineapple

  • Apple

  • Blueberries

  • Cherries

  • Lemon

  • Kale
